MATERIALS
Primary Tissue
GORE-TEX PRODUCT with PFCec FREE DWR: 3-layer polyester fabric (164 g / m2) with Twill construction, extremely soft to the touch, designed to offer great comfort. It provides excellent waterproofing (28,000 mm of water column), excellent breathability (RET <9), dries quickly and is easy to clean. It offers high wear resistance and guarantees permanent waterproofing. It is treated with the special PFCec FREE DWR water-repellent finish, which ensures the absence of fluorinated compounds harmful to the environment.
Secondary Fabric
PFC FREE CLOTHING. Traditional rain jackets repel water through synthetic compounds known as PFCs (perfluorocarbons). PFCs have been used for many years as Durable Water Repellent (DWR), surface treatments of outdoor clothing, equipment and footwear. This finish helps waterproof materials to repel water and impurities. Without this invisible barrier, water and dirt would pass through the layers giving a damp and wet feeling, drastically reducing comfort. The chemical bond formed between fluorine and carbon, found in PFCs, is one of the strongest chemical bonds known to date: for this reason, PFC does not degrade rapidly in the environment; traces of it have been found that can be accumulated in animals and also in humans. This problem, concerning the accumulation of this compound, can cause various effects on human health and the ecosystem and has been the reason for multiple discussions between groups of environmentalists and outdoor clothing companies. A key element in the persistence of PFC in the environment is the length of its chemical structure, or the number of carbon atoms in the structure. Historically, outdoor apparel industries have used long-chain structured PFC (referred to as "C8"). In response to concerns about the environmental impact of PFC, major chemical manufacturers have developed shorter-chain compounds (example C6), which may be less persistent. Montura has replaced the DWR used in the entire collection of outdoor clothing and footwear, with the safer C6. That said, the DWR C6 can still be dangerous for the environment, for this reason it starts of companies, including Montura, have pledged to find healthier alternatives for the ecosystem, for which PFC FREE DWR treatments have been developed. All outdoor brands are aware that PFC-free DWR alternatives do not have the same durability and performance of the previous C6 and C8. Montura has selected the most performing DWR PFC Free versions available to date for its products. A PFC fre e * is intentionally made with materials free from water-repellent treatments based on PFC compounds (perfluorocarbons). The external fabrics are treated with an eco-friendly water-repellent finish, PFC-free: it is a non-fluorinated plant-based treatment that guarantees lasting water repellency and is produced with 60 percent renewable raw materials. * The product may contain traces of it.
